Matcha powder is made from the tea plant Camellia sinensis. The biggest difference with normal tea leaves is that the Camellia sinensis is covered with cloths and tarps four weeks before harvesting. As a result, the plant hardly receives sunlight and it produces extra chlorophyll. The leaves are then steamed whole, dried and ground into powder
